I think Christina, Miles O’Brien’s pet, was elegant and graceful. Unaggressive, and slow enough to run away from. OTOH, when I saw a black widow on the handle of my neighbor’s grill’s propane tank, I knocked it to the patio with my left flip flop, and then used my right (flip flopped) foot to step on it hard.
Spiders are beneficial. VERY few are venemous, and they eat bugs like flies, mosquitoes, and even wasps that get caught in their web. Leave them alone and they leave you alone. I don’t mind them at all, and I AM female so that throws the old addage out the window.
I don’t like bugs in general (and I know that a spider is a not a bug) and I am terrified of animals of all sorts (poor sister could not have a pet larger than a hamster or goldfish and they scared me too) – which is bad enough.
But husband is absolutely TERRIFIED of spiders – so while he deals with other bugs, I have to deal with spiders. I try to do so without his noticing or he will be scouring the house to look for more of them for me to deal with.

No wonder he’s scared. He forgot his thread and straight pins.

I suspect that Meemaw had a hand in this… or the spider got into her Jalapeño Garlic Relish stash.

I rescued a small tarantula from the middle of the street in front of my house and placed her in my backyard yesterday.

Our neighbor puts up huge black spiders. I go over and pet them on the head.
