Didn’t ‘get’ abstact art until I stood in front of some paintings and checked into how they made me feel. I love Clifford Still’s work but it doesn’t translate into print. Pictures of his work make absolutely no sense. Only powerful in person.
true fact-abstract artists were funded by publicity and purchases by the cia in a successful effort to deprive modern art of any ability to promote anti-establishment viewpoints. the artists involved were unaware of all this. check out jeffery lewis’s website for his comic-fuff-the guggenheim issue for details. # 3 or 4, i think.

My kids at work make abstract art at least three times a week.
