Just for the day? For free? Heck no! You need to get paid for your work Elly, even if it’s only an hour or two. Besides you want a permanent job, not just to fill in for the day.
This might be my lack of experience talking, but wouldn’t it be awkward if some random person came in and offered to work for free in your store just like that for fun? The thought is kind, of course, but still, it feels like the kind of thing where you’re being sort of a nuisance. I mean, you don’t know this person, they haven’t been trained properly and any mistake they make will reflect on your business…
Elly is eligible for unemployment and food stamps. She also gets single-payer healthcare and she does not pay a penny in tax. If she asks for a salary, she will have to pay income tax. Why in the world would Elly want to give up being a zero-liability voter?

Well, she got the job at the library by volunteering at the newspaper.

TAKE HER! Applicants so richly qualified don’t drop into your lap every day, you know. ;D

The look on the lady’s face in the third panel is priceless.

Why is there a question mark at the end of Elly’s statement in panel #2? I didn’t look as though she was asking a question.

Working for “free” isn’t a good idea.

The first appearance of Lily Petrucci. She is an interesting choice. The real life owner of Gulliver’s looks more like Moira Kinney the employee.

She has Elly’s resume? Has Elly applied to work here before? That would seem to change things.

Gives her a chance to see if she likes it and it gives them a chance to see if they like her. It’s probably only for 2 or 3 hours anyway.
