Had a dog that did that; while saying goodbye to some relatives he ambles over to the coffee table and scarfed down a nearly full bowl of chip dip in about 30 seconds.
Years ago I was called away by a medical emergency and accidentally left an open bag of chocolate chip cookies on the coffee table. After a very long ER visit, I returned to find the cookies untouched! Needless to say, my Golden got a very small amount of a cookie (without any chocolate) for a reward.
I learned the hard way, and it took a while. If it can’t go in the refrigerator then store it in the microwave or the oven or, if necessary, the laundry room!

“Dog height” for Finnegan wouldn’t get him close to any tabletop.

And there you have it. If the dog can get to it— it’s the human’s fault.
