This is why I encouraged my child to keep her art skills active as a hobby, get a decent-paying job, and then develop her art as she wanted later. She went into medicine, and now likes to decorate and remodel homes she lives in but seems content to mostly use the science side of her brain. Most of us don’t have that choice.

I got two science degrees before I was accepted into the university art program. It never even occurred to me that I might make money at art.
