The first time I ever heard of a hula hoop was when Dinah Shore and a stage full of back-up hoopers were operating the things on her TV show. No dancing as such, just oscillating to keep the hoops hooping. Her audience went nuts. Very soon, there were millions of the hoops all over the country. Amazing what passed for TV entertainment in those days. Or back in the day.
