Sadly, when this was first written the bit about being “riddled with disease” was a joke. Bats are really wonderful animals and instrumental to the ecology and vital to managing mosquitos. Now white nose fungus is wiping out millions, whole colonies. And now bats, at least around here, have become one of the largest reservoirs of of rabies….sigh…. You used to be able to find a bat in your house and just let it go. Now you are supposed to capture it and bring it so they can kill it to test on the minisule chance it “may” have bit your pet or you and not noticed, and doubly minute that it may be a rabid one. Poor little innocent mouse angels.
