3rd grade. I had been in CO for a week due to a relatives funeral. When I got back we had a new girl in class. Everyone teased me that “P” liked me. (she did, and we ran around together for a time) What I always wondered though, was how did she know she liked me if when she arrived to our class I wasn’t there? She never said, I never asked.
I was told that the first sign that someone really likes you is that they turn into a blithering idiot. (OK, it was phrased much nicer but the idea was that if the person likes you, then initially they are gong to get and act nervous.)
I remember that I ‘fumbled’ around verbally on our first date ( it was a ‘blind’ date) but when I had ‘ushered up’ the courage to ask her out on a regular date, we had no problems conversing ! ! !

Made me laugh! That sort of thing still happens to me occasionally at 72.
