A pet always seems to know. My wife and I would go out to dinner and the dogs would come smell our breath. If we had consumed French fries, they’d want their share. If we hadn’t we were mostly ignored.
My dog always shows up when I make peanut butter toast—to lick the knife. I think she hears me unscrewing the top? Never shows up when making regular toast.
Our chowder/pack come running whenever the hear a can opener, pouch being opened or bacon cooking. This morning I had “visitors” a few minutes after I put lox on a bagel. They got the cream cheese instead.

Is this CB’s first usage of the omni-present (in future strips) phrase “Rats!” Probably not, but I don’t remember seeing one.
When did “Good Grief” first appear?
