So true, and bassets use that sad face and big sad eyes to their advantage when trying for treats, and in your case, choc drops and sausage. Sometimes it works.

I wonder if that also happened to Columbo’s dog, every time he was left in the – well, let’s call it – “car”

Oh Fred. I love that you’re OK with the old way of tying the dog outside. They’re happier being closer to their person than they would be if left at home!

There was a strip from the late nineties/early 00s that I don’t think is archived on gocomics. To the best of my memory: a local lady pets Fred as he waits outside a store, saying “Poor Fred, tied up and left to wait outside.” Fred thinks, “Oh, that’s all right, Mrs. Winthrop…I enjoy it. I’ve gotten my ears scratched, my head patted, my tummy rubbed…plus a butter cookie from Mrs. Simms’ little boy!”

    Therapy dog

Because I sometimes check the dictionary before I post, I unfortunately learned that: “While some states define therapy animals and emotional support animals, they are not protected by federal laws, and therefore can be prohibited from businesses, restaurants and many other locations.” WIKI
