Which “U of M” is she referring to I wonder? Minnesota? Michigan? Maryland?…always curious what geography the authors have in their heads (even if they never reveal it) in these strips :-).
This is before the Internet was widely available. The story goes that the first use for an Internet-connected camera was by programmers who worked several floors up from their break room. They put a camera on the Internet so they could tell if there was already coffee in the pot. They would get “prank” calls from as far away as Singapore to tell them the pot needed refillling.
Coincidence? My business partner told me today that he had to have a staff meeting to explain the new rule that cell phones cannot be on desks. Seems too many were spending a lot of time surfing/texting on their phones instead of doing any work. Seems that nothing has changed over the many years since this strip was written.
It is finally winter here in NE Ontario. It was -30C (-22F) when I went out to the hot tub last night. Took longer than my usual 45 seconds to get from the door to the water though – the lid was frozen closed. Guess we will have to replace it when the weather gets warmer. It did hit -37C by morning. Nice sunshine today though.
If you have to ask, Mr. Pinkley, then you obviously haven’t been paying attention. The answer to that question is “No.” It has always been “No” and it will always be “No.” Basically they’re all there to just collect a paycheck — not do any actual work for the office to earn it.
Meanwhile, Jack needs to check out Zedge. They’ve got TONS of free ringtones there ….. including for the University of Michigan! (>ᴗ•)
