I can’t even start counting the times I’ve been told “You’d make a great father” or “You’d make a great husband”, with the implied addition of “for somebody else’s kids” or “for some other woman”.
Many times people just want to be heard or are making conversation about what’s on their mind. You don’t always have to “solve” a problem or come to a conclusion. There are people like Anne who I won’t get into conversations with because it’s frustrating for us both.
Hello Cathy friends! Happy Wednesday! Have a great day, all!
Someone just did this to my young adult daughter regarding why she is having difficulty finding work. They persisted, in an aggressive style, until she had a full-blown panic attack. If she knew why what she is doing isn’t working, she would be employed by now. It was just flat-out harassment, and so is what Cathy’s mom is doing.
I sympathize with Cathy. Question like that don’t help when fate doesn’t send what or who you need your way. I’m 71, and still not married, still no kids (except for the thousands I taught in school), and both folks are gone now so no more questions like that anymore. Miss the folks, but have learned to accept life as it comes.

Sure, she’d keep asking them “why” until they would be too screwed up to marry well.

This one reminds me of that old cartoon dialogue between a little girl and a man.
Girl: “Hi, Mr. Man! Whatcha doing?”
Man answers.
Girl: “Why?” [repeat answering and “Why?” several times]
Girl: “OK, Mr. Man. I love you. Bye-bye!”
HI, MOM. Hello, Clan.
