I used to be a computer teacher at a primary school (grades 1-10). One day, all the students had finished their assignments, and I told them they could do whatever they wanted for that class. They all got on a chat room and chatted with the other kids in the class, who were sitting sitting in the same classroom.
As others have noted – even more prevalent today. With the advance of technology and the forced isolation of the Covid years I am afraid many of our young people have not fully developed their social skills.

and now there are companies which have Zoom meetings when they’re all sitting in the same room.
