By Wallace’s standards that was a relaxing hike.

Just admit he got in a fight with Amelia. And lost.

“Kid, you are a tank.”

Sounds like a typical day for Wallace.

I have done all that. Mind you the tree had fallen so I was trying to climb over it when I fell. I do not climb regular trees on my hikes but have had to use fallen ones to cross small rivers and had to climb over many.

Falling in mud is almost inevitable when the ground is muddy unless it is also very flat.

Briar patches are also inevitable if you veer off the main paths and follow deer trails. That is why I carry a machete and a small blade. Machetes are for clearing away the briars but the knife is to cut off the ones that already have you.

Not enough hours in the day. Tomorrow, something crawls down his neck and disappears under his clothes. (But you can still feel it move.)

This strip has a distinct throwback feel. Kids don’t do these things often enough today.

Yeah, and we adults long for the days when our own bodies could handle similar abuse without as much protest. :P

This sounds a lot like my childhood. And you usually didn’t even mention it when you got home, unless you were asked directly.

I see the seagull stumbled into the briar patch with his buddy. True friend. Spud knew better and stayed home.
