One of my favorite movies is SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN, which spoofs movies’ transition from silents to talkies.

What was old can become “New” when it is rediscovered. There would indeed be a craze for silent movie compilations in the 1950s and ’60s which I grew up watching on TV in the 1970s and ’80s. I still watch some of these compilations when they reappear on TV.

which reminds me to view Mel Brooks’s “Silent Movie” (imdb(dot)com/title/tt0075222/) when I have the chance…

I think it’s cool that he didn’t include Chaplin, Keaton, or Lloyd, but silent movie actors who are less well known. (I just recently learned, to my amazement, that most people don’t know who Mabel Normand was.)

Valentino at the bottom of the list? A lot of ladies will NOT like that…

How about Mary Pickford or Lilian Gish?

Francis X. Bushman did a guest appearance on a sitcom in the 50’s. He was surprised that the ladies didn’t swoon when they heard who he was…

Silent movies are not new they are old

Rediscovering the Silent Past. When I was a little older than them a man named Robert Youngson did that with a compilation movie of Silent Comedians. It was a wonderful revelation for me.

I adore the strips that show Nancy and Sluggo airborne!

Panel #1 shows Nancy airborne and with the remaining panels, the pair of them are airborne!

Almost as good as Hover Hats and Hover Cars in Bozo Strips.
