Nancy clearly believes that size does matter.

Not a very good salesman. He should’ve said, “but we have more expensive ones.”

My grandfather was born in 1890. We have a geography book which he used in third grade – in 1898. There were only 45 states – and many of them were only recently admitted to the Union. There were a bunch of little European “kingdoms” which no longer exist. I’ll bet if we saw the globe Nancy was trying to buy, we’d be amazed at how much the world has changed since buy in the 1950s.

Ten bucks used to be a lot of money.

Looking at the larger globe, the Atlantic Ocean sort of looks like a standing bear, about to attack something – with the Caribbean and Mediterranean seas as arms, and Antarctica as the space between its legs. The “Ears” are the Arctic Ocean, with Greenland between them as more empty space above it’s head.

Back when $10 bucks was worth maybe 50 or 60 in today’s terms.
