I just started reading Mutt and Jeff and today realized that Mutt is the tall guy and Jeff is the short guy.
I don’t remember seeing todays strip before.
That dialog makes no sense.. not that it matters though, so don’t try to explain it, was never a baseball fan and don’t want to learn.

Back in the 1940s some Mexican multi-millionaires raided the major leagues trying to sign famous baseball players, back when MLB salaries were very low compared to today. So this comic must have been from the late ’40s.
Jeff being Satchel Paige like. Famous for his crazy black league tales.
