    There are better backup plans than coal. We live up north, and I have a friend completely off the grid between his geothermal heat and solar electric. I doubt we’ll be entirely off coal fo awhile, though.

    I wonder how many people have never seen coal being burned in a fireplace or stove? Watching rock burn is pretty cool.

    I grew up with coal furnaces, coal being delivered down the shute into the coal bin….shoveling it in the furnace….warm and cozy heat but dirty heat….
