I tried to tell my family we would celebrate orthodox Christmas. Since it occurs in early January we could save by going to after Christmas sales. It didn’t go over well.
Hubby and I decided that the family not spend time and money on a bunch of hit-or-miss presents. Instead we all bought a bunch of small silly things to put into a big “grab bag” pile. Trading and bartering was encouraged. That way we had the fun of opening gifts but no one’s heart was broken because “the perfect gift” wasn’t perfect.
Reminds me of a scheme where two women agree to “hire” each other to clean each other’s houses. That way they at least get Social Security benefit wages accruing.

I agree with Wait until after Christmas. Not sure about Ben-Was, however.

We always buy whatever we want for ourselves. And we take a trip for xmas. That’s a much better gift than a bunch of “stuff”.

Krankmas?

I thought it was “Thanksmas”. From the timing of the ads/sales/catalogs/music/decorations/etc/etc/etc.

if you live with someone and don’t take note of what they want or need, you’re really not paying attention

Anything to reduce the commercial hype surrounding Christmas would be great.

I kinda do that all year. I get what I want or need all year. Then I have nothing to buy for Christmas.
