I once displayed some odds and ends in an old wooden coke crate. A guy offered me $20 and got mad when I said it wasn’t for sale. Dumb me, I should have sold it. I use it as a spice rack now so it is well seasoned.
Did Frank marry “up” or did Nancy marry “down”? I remember that as a quote Brian Mulroney used (up) for describing himself and Ron Reagan at his funeral.
Men are always looking for tools. One of the first garage sales I had back in 1981 and newly married….my husband had gone into the house for a few minutes and I was running the sale alone. Getting excited because we had a lot of people. One guy asked if he could buy our plastic bucket for $2 and of course, I said yes! Boy, was my husband mad at me the next day when he went to wash the car and….NO BUCKET.
The best garage sale score I got was soon after I got married. The wife and I went to this garage sale and the woman had a ton of tools she was selling super cheap. Later on I realized it was more likely we went to a divorce sale.
On the flip side I had a garage sale a few years back, and I put out a box of random cables with free written on it (let them sit in someone else’s garage). Some guy asked if he could take the whole box for $5. Instead of free.
Years ago I bought an old farm house as an estate sale. The village it was in had an annual “75 mile yard sale”, so the first year we were in the house we decided to take part, setting up a few tables in front of the old barn.
Hardly sold a thing off the tables, but customers cleaned out that barn! The old farmer ran a small engine repair shop, and there were dozens of old weed wackers, lawnmowers, chain saws, and the like that I hadn’t gotten around to taking to the dump. Turns out I didn’t have to!
