If memory serves me right, Diane and Luann do not become BFFs and in fact I think that Diane ends up going out with Aaron Hill for a short period of time (which obviously a very negative development from either Brad’s or Luann’s POV) but I am forgetful of where in the timeline this occurs so that might have went down already.
