Many people have a hard time understanding the lyrics to Auld Lang Syne, so here’s a translation into plain modern English.

I know a man, his name is Lang

And he has a neon sign

And mister Lang is very old

So they call it “Old Lang’s sign”

(That might not be an entirely accurate translation. Some poetic license was needed so it could be sung to the same tune.)

I can’t believe Frank looked like this in college.

Keep fantasizing, Frank.

The last panel would be my typical New Year’s Eve.

Nancy is being surprisingly understanding. Didn’t he essentially say that instead of being surrounded by gorgeous, sexy models he’s sitting with his wife (and family)?

When I was a girl in the 50’s, we could buy jelly in glass jars that the lids weren’t screwed on but, had to be pried off. Some of these jars had songs printed on them. One glass I had, had Auld Lang Syne. It was just something to read and I had no idea it was the “New Year’s” song. I learned about that later in life.

Don’t count too much on old Mick for next year…

Those women are just generic fantasy models—-neither of them looks like Toni or Nancy to me! Greg did a nice job of creating Frank’s fantasy.

Also…if Mick Jagger is among the “beautiful people,” I couldn’t say what standards are used—-he always looked like a Mervyn Peake illustration for “Gormenghast.”
