An eight year oddysey that is ending up like a three hour tour.

1/20/09.. Hopefully the end of an error.

I’d like to get these 8 years of my life back…but then I realize I started drinking and smoking…so I should probably get another 10 years added to that

Pretty insidious, the way this ends up in right wing rags like the NJ Herald. I think back to the way I became interested in politics – it was through editorial cartoons, nothing more subversive than a good cartoon.

The moral: Never take directions from a person you had a beer with. They may be drunk.

I like the strip, but I wish you’d leave your screaming liberal politics out of it.

People who can’t see the left wing liberal in this cartoon which keeps increasing are blind. This is truly the most blatant. I will not be reading this one again. Maybe Wiley doesn’t realize that there is half a nation that he is turning off and who will do the same as I am and dump it.

Nobody is going to grab your bait to answer your obvious question. I totally agree with twright64 and Barbara Ayres. I wish you would stick to being funny, which you are very good at, and take your politics to someone who wants to hear what you think.

So, here are the Nazi thugs and brown shirts shouting down any speaker they disagree with.

Only a guilty conscience would take offense at this strip. The fact that the wrong wing conservatives are upset proves the point.

They have brought us to the brink of ecological and economic disaster, and now they want four more years in power???

STPATME is an idiot! It wasn’t the conservatives that brought us to disaster, it was the liberals. And, Wiley, it looks like yoy’ve successfully divided your audience. Is that what you wanted?

Simply put, the truth hurts. Of course they know that they put President Deciderer into office and not once but twice because he was “funner”. So when the sad truth is pointed out, they instantly take offense and storm off in a huff. “If you won’t play by my rules I’m going home to play with myself! So there!” (pun 100% intended!)

I dropped my local newspaper for three reasons:

They got rid of their editorial cartoonist, Gary Markstein (I wish him well with Daddy’s Home).

They cut down the Op-Ed section from six pages to four, mostly by coutting down on space for letters to the editor.

But the final blow, the proverbial last straw:

They dropped Non Sequitur.

Keep it up, sir. As long as I can read you here, all is right with the world.

20 January 2009 is my next birthday. I hope I get something good in the White House.

Nobody’s going home. I just enjoyed the strip when it was non-political. And, it was Clinton who put us “here” when he decided against drilling for our own resources back in 1993 because “it would take 10 years to start producing. If hadn’t, we would be spending our money, far less of it,on our own oil and this whole crisis would have been diminished to a problem, not a catastrophe!

Megamike: “Most offshore oil production and exploration has been banned since a federal law passed in 1981.” In case you’re too wet behind the ears to remember, that was during the reign of Saint Reagan.

P.S. This strip has *ALWAYS* been “political”, it’s simply been a bit more subtle about it in the past. (Or some readers simply haven’t been paying as much attention as they should have – kinda like during the past few elections…)

Runar - I never said it started with Clinton I just said that he had a chance in ‘93 to correct the problem but did not. And who was it that kept us from drilling for our own oil? The executive branch is relatively powerless without the approval of the legislative. Not to mention the historical perspective of a successful president is largely determined by events beyond his control. Consider Lincoln. If the Union had lost (a factor mostly beyond his control besides, ironically, the appointment of a drunk for a general) then he would have gone down as one of the worst presidents in history for the very same choices that now make him one of the best.

This country is heading in the wrong direction. But to point the finger at any one man, regardless of public speaking ability (and lets face it…that’s virtually the sole factor on which 99% of the population, the comic strip in discussion and ALL the posts above, judge him) is simply ignorant. Unfortunately, I have no faith that we will get any change, regardless of who is elected.

The qualifier is the problem, it insults the electorate based on the supposition that people did it because Bush was “Funner”, or as the comic puts it, the kind of guy you’d like to have a beer with.

That is not just a needless insult it’s also FALSE.

People re-elected Bush largely because they didn’t trust the Democrats to do anything but pull America out of the war against terrorism.

In other words, it was FEAR that re-elected Bush, fear of the terrorists, fear of further attacks on America, fear of head-in-the-sand wishful-thinking/denial of the dangers, fear of non-action or insufficient action, not beer-buddy’ism.

It’s also more than fear, half the country don’t trust the Democrats specifically when it comes to running a war, right or wrong, the impression is that they’ll find a way to justify turning tail and running, and if you listen to HALF of what Obama says, he fulfills this stereotype, because that’s precisely what he’s saying he wants to do in Iraq.

BUT if we listen to ALL of what Obama says, it’s another story. He ALSO agrees that the war on terrorism is necessary.

Maybe if both sides tried to UNDERSTAND eachother and recognize each party has strengths and weaknesses that we need at different moments in history, instead of attacking eachother with mindless superficial insults meant to demean eachother, we’d be better off?

I’d vote for Obama, but I’m not holding my breath that he’ll do anything much different than any other politician (ie. cowtow to corporate interests) he shows signs of that already. Both Obama and McCain were on the SAME page (“bailout the corporations/Banks”)

The same corporations that gave donations/money to Obama and McCain and Bush and Clinton, et cetera, are the same corporations that are getting bailed out.

for example. Not a good sign.

But there is at least SOME hope that Obama might do something new, once he is President. so I’m willing to roll the dice, THIS time.

In the middle of the early stages of a war though? no way, most people stayed with Bush because it was not the right time to change leaders or course.

Now, I think it is the right time for a change in course and therefore leadership.

We’re at a crossroads in the war now, the Iraq stage seems to be winding down, and it’s moving to Afghanistan and the border-regions in Pakistan.

Again, BOTH Obama and McCain are on the SAME page here concerning a new shift in focus on the war on terrorism.

Even Obama believes it’s necessary.

Though they argue semantics in public, BOTH sides are indicating an agreement that Bin Laden and the Taliban must be dealt with.

The difference is subtle but imo necessary.

Bush’s initial response to 9/11 was to hit back and hit back HARD, and for good or bad, the bottom line is that it has kept America SAFE, but as a byproduct it has resulted in some of our allies feeling alienated, now we could try a bit of diplomacy too, and that’s clearly Obama’s forte.

I think the right man or woman comes along at the right time in history, though of course half the country won’t agree at the time, because the electorate is split virtually 50/50 Rep/Dem.

That’s my view anyway.

You Bush supporters who think it’s not funny should examine what your folly has done to the country. (Been paying attention to current events?) Learn, kids, and correct your mistakes. MM I almost agree with MOST of what you have said, but even with the “politics of fear” ( when was the last time there was an orange alert?)After the last election, huge numbers of people still claimed to have voted for Bush because he was “Just like the rest of us”. “The rest of us” are not generally qualified to run large business let alone a super-power country. Yes, we can learn to do anything, but you have to be WILLING to learn. Of all that you have said, the saddest thing is that even an informed voter who has paid attention and followed the logic and found the facts and not simply listened to the rhetoric of the campaign, must “roll the dice” with their vote. I fear for our future especially after seeing the movie “Idiocracy”. While it’s supposed to be a farce, it is far more likely with the direction this country seems to follow lately.

Ahhhh … the fate of our nation

In the Clinton era, it was considered our patriotic duty to mock the president, who richly deserved it. Now if we mock the president, we’re un-American? Please, just stop.

I am not a Democrat. I am not a Republican. The problem is that Wiley’s analysis is juvenile and it’s only purpose is to evoke the reaction that it has. To stir up devisivness and get the readers arguing about who supports who and why.

I wonder if China Doll is singing a different tune now…….

Unfortunately, I doubt it. If China was that hooked on the kool-aid two and a half years ago, I doubt they are able to see anything besides the glow from the Chosen One’s halo.

So in hindsight of it all, (being its now 2012) it seems there are worse roads to travel than the one we were on. When will integrity and honesty come back into play here?
