Who you know works best when, what you know about ‘who’ is best kept a secret.

Sadly Brutus, that’s correct, at least until the stuff hits the fan and then you’re in trouble for knowing something, telling the bosses and still get into a mess because they wouldn’t listen.

I’ve always tried to be nice to folks but the black cloud just tends to follow me. I hate hearing from people that you’re the first one this has ever happened to. Why can’t it be the biggest lotto that happens?

I prefer it that way. Someone I know is out there on Linkedin and other such sites, he ended up getting hacked because of who he knows. I have a feeling Brutus would back me up on this, but I am perfectly happy flying under the radar.

Same in any business. Only the owner’s family, his/her friends and relatives, golf buddies, etc. get promoted. Those who actually do all the work are they retire. THEN the company realizes who kept the business running.

I disagree my good friend. The talented individual who demonstrates those talents in the work environment and is a strong asset to his employer will most usually be rewarded for his hard work, not only with recognition, but in a more substantial way with higher pay. That being said, having a good relationship with the Boss and supervisor can usually never hurt in being advanced in your career as when you are doing good, they are doing good. The major exception is when you really are making your immediate boss look good and they are taking the credit for your good labor and efforts to their boss and you can’t get the recognition you deserve. Then it’s time to find a new job…..

It depends on what the “what” is that you know. There’s a lot of skeletons out there.

In some cases, it’s not who you know or what you know, it’s what you know about whom. I worked with a guy who had “dirt” on the supervisor and union rep, and used what he knew about them to keep his job, despite getting caught stealing company property and assaulting a co-worker on company time and company property.

We used to say that differently, but decorum prohibits me from saying that here.

A lot of those people you are better off not knowing.

I’m sure the Chief would say you don’t know much, either!

Not just on the job, it’s true in life in general.
