The name Lucy Longbottom reminds me of two fictional characters. One is Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter books. The other, earlier one is a Marion Longbottom who appeared in “There Is A Happy Land” by Keith Waterhouse. It was his first novel and was largely autobiographical. His next novel, also largely autobiographical, was “Billy Liar” which was so successful that it became a stage musical and a film. Keith Waterhouse wrote a column for the Daily Mirror for many years so he and Andy Capp have the Daily Mirror as a connecting point.
No mystery about Andy. What you see is what you get! His life’s an open book – with pages from the police blotter, court records, and debt collectors’ journals.

He’s drunk already? Best to lock him up in one of those weird purple buildings; maybe that’ll sober him up!!

With Andy the “who” is a moot point. It’s more like “what now?”

Is Lucy Longbottom related to Neville Longbottom?

Luckily they don’t live in Midsomer. The homicide rate there exceeds that of Chicago!
