We’ve all seen granny’s house. It took quite the undertaking just to clear the dining room table. Her house is a disaster. I don’t think I could eat whatever she cooks or bakes. Very unsanitary.
I am woefully reminded of the time my elderly and failing great grandma baked us a cake when I was about five or six years old. It was quite delicious, but my mother and sister failed to tell me what they knew until after I had eaten two slices. The cake was riddled with meal worms. I learned a lot about my family that day, and I also lost a bit of innocence.
Petey is halfway right. He just goes a little too far in his hyperbole in his closing statement (which, oddly, makes Alice want some). Abundant molasses, yes, but I doubt that glue and road tar were parts of Grandma’s recipe….

My mother was so poor as a child that she and her brother used to peel up road tar when the streets were re-paved and chewed it in lieu of gum

Those cookies aren’t white, so Petey wouldn’t eat them anyway.

I’m with Petey on this one: fruitcake is inedible.

Madeline’s eyes after tasting the cookie tell me everything I need to know about them.
