I call that a spiral. It happens in a flash. I retrace my thoughts and find the original ‘normal’ thought and wonder why I do this to myself. Sometimes, before I get too far in the spiral I snap out of it by saying “STOP”, which helps. I’m going to try to stop educating people about this. I think I have someone convinced that a trigger is just a bad experience, not a bad experience connected to a haunting trauma that sucks you into a black hole of spiraling thoughts or a catatonic like state.
