Unexpected Daphne! Always fun to see her! To be fair to Peirce, been a while she she eye rolled, and Nate’s comment IS pretty dumb! Plus, it’s nice to see them have a conversation rather than just talk about the plot, if that makes sense.

I’m full of joy to see Daphne, and this in itself makes today’s strip a winner for me. I must say, however, that, in my opinion, Mr Peirce is going about this story arc in a very unimaginative way. Nate’s comments regarding the afterlife are extremely predictable: it’s like Dee-Dee enthusing over the idea of Heaven being one splendiferous talent contest or Chad delighting in the thought of everything in Paradise being made of cookie dough. Nate hoping that the afterlife is a feline-free zone is such an obvious thing for him to express – and this is a story arc which can be developed in so many original and thought-provoking ways that it fairly makes your head swim. This is another instance of Peirce being reluctant to leave his comfort zone.

“If that’s what works for you, okay.” Behold – Daphne found the very concept for peace on Earth.

And, Nate: The afterlife is filled with dead people. What kind of smell do you expect?

Maybe there should be an afterlife just for Nate.

No cats? No cats? Sorry Nate but heaven will be full of cats!

I never thought my egg salad smelled like a dead animal, but of course, now I want one.

Cats are ABSOLUTELY in the afterlife.

Also, the smell of fresh garlic is part of it.

I like egg salad and cats. I guess I’m going to the other place which is nice as I won’t have to put up with certain people I can’t stand in life.

When I was a kid in Sunday School, the teacher asked us what we thought heaven would be like. Would we be the same as we are now? We all answered “yes” and then she said “What about people who are in a wheelchair?” It made me think about that, and 60 years later I still remember that day.

So Daphne does not accept Valhalla where the afterlife is constant war.

Though Valhalla is supposed to be destroyed in Ragnarok and then there will be peace in a new Midgard and a new Asgard and a new Valhalla, that is not like the old.

Why is it that cat people still like dogs, but dog people hate cats for seemingly no reason other than they exist

Well, all dogs go to Heaven. A part of me is looking forward to feeling our family’s dog’s fur between my fingers again.
