That’s the irony. As more stuff goes electronic, somehow kids are carrying more and heavier books to school at ever younger ages. Elementary school kids have been recorded carrying bags a third their weight.
This is SOOOO my daughter. She’s a packrat. Give her a bag and she will fill it absolutely to capacity. It’s not like the school gives her a lot of required things to carry; it’s more than she wants to bring a lot of things “in case”. She’s taken the scouting motto to the logical extreme. Art supplies, makeup, spare clothes, a stuffed animal in case someone needs comforting, medicine, bandages, books, a blanket, tools, emergency sprinkles…..
I have a “day” backpack that I use when we go on trips to places where we will not have easy access back to the car/RV. I mostly carry husband’s stuff for him in the pack – among other things always have to have a snack available as he is Diabetic – plus his cameras, etc.

I see this almost every day at the elementary school, they are bigger than the child.

And yet she won’t bring a coat unless forced. :-D

That’s probably twice as many books as you carry, Baldo!

Yes, and since many schools have removed lockers, kids are now suffering the same back problems older people have.

I have a hard, wheeled, pullout handle suitcase that weighs more empty than the clothes I put in it!

When I did K-12, there were NO backpacks except for camping trips in summer.
