It was a simple choice last night for supper, I had PB&J. She had a grilled cheese. Tonight it will likely be left over brisket that I fixed last week.
At least they are in different rooms …… I’ve seen people Text each other ….. in the same room and sometimes just a few “FEET” from each other …. crazy … :)
No text here. I put intercoms in the rooms we frequent, and yell when we’re not in the direct intercom area. My phone only is activated when we leave the house. Hers is never out of her hand.
My daughter (40) and I (67) text each other, when in different rooms, but we live in an apt complex and don’t like to talk loudly. As I have some minor joint issues, I would rather not get up every time I want to ask her a question.
We lived in a small 3 room apartment when first married & could easily hear room to room. When bought our house – 2 floors plus basement &detached garage – we put in intercoms so we could talk to each other without having to run up & down stairs – especially in an emergency.
What we did not know – neither of us ever having had this before – since the house had forced air heat with a vent opening (or two) in each room one could yell through the vent system. This system could be scary at times. Once I was home alone shortly after we moved in and I heard people talking – it scared the heck out of me and I was heading for the telephone we had put in the basement to call husband at work for help. I then realized that I was hearing Lucy and Ricky Ricardo talking! I was standing next to the vent which came down from our bedroom and I had left the TV on in the bedroom. I learned to use the vents to help me. If I am upstairs in our office and the laundry is running is in the basement – if I go to the vent in the bathroom I can hear the washer and/or dryer running or hear they finished their cycles through the vents and save running down two flights of stairs to check if it time to shift loads.
As to the cell phones and texts. 98% or more of the text messages I get are unsolicited ones from what I politely call “the other political party”. This has been going on for decades (back when I had a “candy bar”phone) and still annoys the heck out of me – no votes for any of their candidates from us until they stop annoying me – and most of the texts are not even for local elections or from anywhere in my state. My sister will text when she had good news about my 94 yo mom or bad news about less close relatives.
And husband and I text when we are in different rooms. If I ask what he wants for dinner and he texts it to me – well, he can’t say that he didn’t ask for “that” for dinner. If I hear a loud bang upstairs I text asking if he is ok and related situations

If I did that she’d never see them. It’s a rare occurrence that she has her phone on her, much less on.

Why text when you can yell? That’s what my wife and I do.

Being a plugger, I was in a coffee shop and saw two young people sitting at the same table texting each other.

Or even the next chair. Except it isn’t text messages [fingers are too large], it is email.

This can’t be real.. small print and large thumbs are a pluggers nemesis.

Got this one wrong. The closest a plugger gets to a text message is to leave a hand written note under a fridge magnet.

My Dad & Mom just shouted to one another across the room … and both were using PC’s at the time … :\

We were always taught it’s rude to yell, especially indoors. Modern technology has made home life much quieter.
