When I was working, the week between the two holidays were not producing any work. We were waiting until the next holiday so we goofed off that whole week.
I think that most office-type businesses should just shut down for that week. Nothing gets done anyway. My uncle had a manufacturing business, and when Christmas rolled around, he just gave everyone their annual holidays, closing the shop for the whole Christmas season. The employees loved it.
Because management does take the time off and they want you to do the physical inventory and close the year while they vacation in Cabo on their yachts.
I loved working that week! It was alway so peaceful and quiet because hardly anyone else was around. And my family felt sorry for me, since I always told them that I ‘had to work’, not that I wanted to work.
In my town, the week between Christmas and New Years is our busiest week. I work at the wastewater plant. All the tourist in town are sending us their business!
I was actually quite productive during that week, because managers were out on vacation so I could just get my job done without incessant interruptions

I had worked myself up to 5 weeks of vacation at my last job. Usually didn’t work in December as it was use it or lose it.

A fair number of places close between Christmas and New Year’s because no work is getting done. Makes sense I suppose.

I come in to work because I don’t have the vacation time saved up and plan to use it next summer.

Reading all these comments I feel like I’m getting gypped, I’m retired and can’t take time from that.

I do it for the money. That way my bills get paid.
