I bet it was a D-flat. Because that’s the key of the earth. I first heard of this from Paul Winter, of the group Winter Consort. He was invited by a friend in Canada to play his alto sax beside the barn, with a group of wolves who came close and howled every night. Winter mimicked the notes of the wolf song, later discovering he was playing in D-flat. He remembered a university professor saying that in some esoteric circles D-flat is considered the key of the earth. Long story short, he found out that his cellist had been experimenting with whale song, using bow harmonics, and his oboist was doing the same with the song of the African fish eagle. Yep, D-flat. The resulting album, “Common Ground”, well worth a listen. In 1990 in Tokyo, I played alto flute with a pianist named Sone. He is a music therapist, and after improvising together, he told me my key is D-flat 9, with a sharp 5. I still love that key. Lastly, for now, we had a little frog outside our house, chirping, and, you guessed it, when I looked for his note on my piano in our living room, it was a D-flat in the sixth octave. So, Alice probably can’t help herself, D-flat.

I’m one of the few people l know that cannot whistle! I’ve done it, but don’t know how I accomplished this. Was stunned when I did, but despite repeated attempts, can’t replicate the feat!

I love the tiny little 8th note in the middle of the spittle in panel 3.

He’s holding a monkey wrench. That tool was invented and patented by a man named AY McDonald of Dubuque, IA. He also was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor during the Civil War. You know, the war that Trump said he would have negotiated while campaigning in Iowa this week. He also said Iowan’s have to “get over” the school shooting that just happened in Iowa that killed a sixth grader and wounded several others. But I digress.

Daddy’s “trusty monkey wrench” [anyone old enough to catch the Old-Time Radio reference?] may not be the tool for this job! This is a case for Madeline to handle….
