There is a ship’s cat, Ulua, who comes into port at Morro Bay occasionally. He immediately goes on shore leave and they only hear from him at meals. He is totally in charge of the docks during that time. Tourists’ dog give him a wide berth. In order not to be mistaken for a stray, he is outfitted with a vest that reads “Security”. He used to live in my neighborhood across the bay before he took to albacore fishing. If I call his name, he’ll come by for a quick couple of pats before continuing on his very busy way.
They really do sell those shirts — doggie t-shirts with SECURITY across the shoulders. (Check eBay, Temu, Amazon, etc) And the funniest part is, mostly they come only in the smaller sizes.

He keeps a close watch on this door of mine
When he starts barking then it’s time
To find out what it is behind
That door of mine
