Changes to the environment provide mental stimulation that can reduce age related memory loss.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

I agree. That makes it unanimous, so far.

Grocery stores do this every 6-9 months, and just for the items that more the fastest.

Actually there are customers who are frequently in the store, but can never find anything. They’ll accuse us of moving stuff when nothing has been moved. Makes me wonder how they manage to find their way home or how they function in life!

They’re either catering to the hunter-gatherer in all of us, or think we need a little more stress in our lives.

The Walmart where I live moves grocery items every week under the mistaken impression that if we have to hunt for what we want, we’ll buy more things. Most of us will go buy it from another store.

Our Costco does this on a regular basis – and the fact that none of their aisles have product names associated with them is especially frustrating. I understand it’s to make me wander and possibly buy new things, but not cool from a consumers point of view. I just want what I want & to enjoy the Senior Buffet.

Anything that keeps you in the store longer is money in the bank to retail stores. Estimates are more than $2.00 a minute.

For the record, our local Publix grocery stores don’t do this. Never have in the 20 years I’ve been going to them.

When they build a new store, which in my area is something that is happening a lot, they try to stick to the same floorplan as well. Though newer stores do have bigger sections of pre-made stuff – most are in brand new suburbs where people can afford it and commute to work daily – they otherwise are mostly the same.

They also have the best customer service I’ve ever seen in a store, and they tend to hire by looks – lots of good looking young guys (and girls I guess) do the stocking or bagging.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop. It’s not the greatest movie ever made, but it’s the first one I could think of that takes place in a store.

Not only are things moved about, many are no longer stocked, because as I’m told, “We’re narrowing the depths of our line items in order to serve the customer better and help lower prices…” I’m not seeing the lower prices part…
