Cords were thick enough then that you would have had a hard time chewing through them.

The cords got tangled up all the time. I remember standing on a chair letting the phone hang down to the floor twisting around trying to untangle that cord.

We still have a landline. It’s easier to cal 911 on it.

The cord connecting the hand set to the base unit was even more fun than the one going from the wall to the phone.

Just don’t chew through the cord, Mittens.

I visited a house that still had a 60s style dial corded kitchen phone. I dialed my childhood number just to hear the comforting rhythm of the clicks as the dial spun round. It was not in service.

Mittens is not wrong. We still have a landline and have to replace the cord now and then, due to excessive play time.

People did “text” each other via hand-delivered notes produced from a portable printer known as a “pen” or a (rather less portable) device known as a typewriter.

Oddly enough, decades-long relationships, vast engineering projects and entire economies were managed through such means. “Instant” is not all it’s cracked up to be. :)

My cats liked the cord too. Until they knocked the receiver off and on their heads. Game over.
