I was only hit by my mom (parents) once. I was yelled at and in a lot of trouble. To this day – I understand my mom was worried, but it was not my fault.
I was in first grade. I had a friend who lived around the corner and was in second grade. When we were playing after lunch I saw her come and talk to the monitor lady in charge of us. No one except first graders were allowed on this playground. The monitor waved her through to talk to me. “The school got a call from your mom. She has to go somewhere and you are suppose to come home with me.”
I was young – 5 years old, I was stupid, she seemed to have authority to tell me this (the lady HAD let her on the playground) and I believed her. “Your mom called the school. There is a problem and you are suppose to come home with me until she can get you.”
Mom did not really drive and if dad had the car – which he generally did, she did not have a car. I was terrified of what could have happened – my little sister sick? my dad sick? a grandparent sick? mom sick? something wrong with the house? But the lady had let friend on the first grade playground, so went home with her. Can you see where this is going?
I went home with her and explained to her mom that I was suppose to stay there. Her mom had errands to run – we ran them. When we got back her mom had me call mine – who was in a state of panic over where I was. The friend had made it all up!! It was the ONLY time in my life that I was spanked.
