I bet most people under the age of 40 or so won’t get this joke. I made a reference to Lassie (and Timmy and his penchant for wells) to a large group of under 30-year olds recently, and none of them had any idea who Lassie was.
Actually, “Timmy never actually fell down a well in any of the seven seasons he was on the show. Nor did the earlier owner, Jeff, ever fall down a well.”
My great-grandfather used to cut ice out of the river in Leadville, CO circa the 1880’s. My grandmother never quit calling the ‘fridge an “ice box”. She lived until 1958 or so, and had not had an ice box for 15 or 20 years!

It’s time that kid learned to solve his own problems.

Well, if that is the case, sure goes ahead.

The truth is that Lassie never really cared about Timmy. Keeping that stupid kid alive just meant more lucrative film contracts.

just to clear matters up, never in the history the Lassie tv show did Timmy fall into a well…and Jon Provost just turned 72

Last week you pulled him out of the quicksand.

Howlingly funny. Yeah, I am OLD! Five years older than Jon Provost, I see. Thanks @oakie817

Believe me, we would have all loved you if you had actually done that. Timmy didn’t have the brains God gave a turnip.

Again? I don’t blame you for drinking, Lassie.

If I fell down a well, my cat would go for help. Not immediately, but it would definitely go on her To Do List. :)

laughed hard when I read the punch line. Ya, I’m in my 70’s so I know exactly of what he speaks

Aye, Lassie, there’s the belly rub.

Makes sense. If Lassie dropped everything whenever Timmy fell down a well, she’d never have time to get anything done.
p.s. I know, Timmy never actually fell down as well.

rin tin tin’s at the other end of the bar, boring the younger patrons with stories about his movie career…
