He makes a solid point. Parents today have so few children every one of them has to be a success. A child that’s below average is a sign you’re a bad parent. The easiest proof that your child is a success is loads of trophies! So it doesn’t matter whether the kid wants them or not, the parent needs them to receive them.

My grown up kids didn’t want their trophies, so we disposed of them. They haven’t been missed.
