They claim new windows will pay for themselves by lowering your heating/cooling bills. But it takes an average of 11 years to save enough on heating/cooling to pay for those windows.
If all they want to do is put insulation in your attic, that’s cheap and most of the time you can do it yourself. Blowing it into the walls is where the money goes.
My daughter replaced their old windows. My grandkids now complain that it’s not as much fun to lie on the radiators any more, because they aren’t as warm. No pleasing some people.
But is there a joke here? This is just a statement of fact.
we invested in some new windows last year before winter and they’ve instantly led to reduced energy costs. of course, i’ll be dead before the energy savings equal the cost of the windows… ☺
Solar panel installers say that they can cut my $295 a month electricity bill in half. Except my electricity bill is $85. And with a house that was built in 1942 with load bearing walls and the flat roof joists running parallel with the solar panel supports I do not, in my engineering experience feel it is a good idea. Plus, all neighbors who have gotten solar panels have roof leaks now. I still have 12 years warranty on my roof, IF I don’t damage the roof. Oh, the solar panels will cost $8000.

Our house was built to very high insulation standards. Then the heating guys install a vent to let in outside air.

Not really a joke here. Saving energy is a matter of long-term planning. Our solar panels have a ten-year payback period.

Any time we get an estimate for some work to be done it’s higher than expected and takes twice as long to finish as estimated…
