At least ours isn’t over my bed.

Neither is mine, but it’s still too close….and the low battery alert is too loud when I’m trying to sleep. Now, where is that darn new battery?

Ours goes off every time we use the stove.

Ours seldom goes off. Usually, it’s when Dad forgot what he was cooking, and it burns.

Gee, that’s familiar. Are they designed that way? It’s been 2-3 am every time!

The one in my bedroom did! At 1 AM. Way up at the ceiling. I had to sleep on the couch in the family room. The next morning my Son in Law took it down. There was literally another one in the hall 5 feet away.

Dip, just helping to, bip, spike overnight battery, bip, sales.

If you replace the battery on your smoke alarm every six months like the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends, you probably will ward off those minions.

The only thing I’m able to do when this happens is to remove the offending detector from all power sources and deal with it in the morning.

Several years ago all of my alarms decided new expensive batteries would only last for 3 days! After several tries, I gave up and bought new units.

With multiple units I have trouble finding the offending one.

I have to say that our Nest is good that way. It actually sends notices of things like that. Last night it warned me “Increased level of smoke in hallway” so I had time to wave the bacon smoke away before the piercing sounds set the dogs off barking for 15 minutes.

The last smoke alarm I bought says that it comes with a 10-year battery. There is no way to change it.

I wonder if a drunk old lady would hear Beep Beep. Likely to think it’s the Beep Beep Roadrunner dream or BEEP BEEP ~ THE LITTLE NASH RAMBLER. >

I just bought a new combo smoke and carbon monoxide detector. Unlike my old one, it doesn’t go off every time I make toast.

We had multiple Smoke Alarms in our 2-story house and one of them, either on the ground floor or the basement was beeping, about once every 15-20 minutes. We could not figure out which one it was. Drove us crazy for days until finally it beeped when someone was really close to it… ☺

Not true. It’s always 3am. LOL

And when you do replace the battery every six months or so (I would do it when I turned my clocks ahead and back each year – well, what few clocks I have that don’t do it automatically), the beeping that indicates that the detector itself is worn out and you need a new one almost invariably goes off at 1 AM.

That’s the way it works around here…

folks in our mountain hamlet home were excessively interested in fires and so quite pleased when city hall upgraded the public announcement system’s disaster alert function, providing updates whenever a fire broke out somewhere and giving folks something to talk about. they were less pleased about the upgrade when the system started malfunctioning and broadcasting loud earthquake alerts in the middle of the night…

I’m still puzzling over why a hardwired smoke alarm needs the same battery and changes as a non hardwired one. Why would I ever need to hardwire if both the darn things need the same battery and have to be changed the same way? I think I agree with the above posters who speculated a connection between smoke alarm manufacturers and battery makers. And yeah, 1 am the beep goes on. I’ve had the battery go BEEP after only 4 months before.
