In the early days of semiconductor fabrication, arsenic was measured by a worker and loaded into a high temperature quartz tube. The arsenic was diffused into a silicon wafer to change its electrical behavior. I know one lady who had this job. Her hair began to fall out after 5 years. Yep, arsenic. Early days of poor safety. Water tables were polluted as well.
