I like to mess with the receipt checkers at Costco when I have two orders( with two receipts). I only hand them one and if they catch that I have too many items , I hand them the other receipt, smile, and tell them they passed the test. If they don’t catch the discrepancy, oh well….
If people would stop stealing this would not be necessary. There will soon be automatic scanners for your receipt to release the gate so you can depart.

by asking to check your receipt they are basically saying you are guilty of stealing until you prove otherwise

I have learned to put everything in a bag and they let you pass.
