Same thing with my husband. He’ll only water the plants when I ask him. And I am also forgetful, so it’s a wonder our plants are still alive and thriving. (No, they’re not all succulents and cactuses, I have orchids and a large monstera, as well as draceana and hedera helix)
Our indoor plant population triples every fall. Wife and I each water the ones that are ours once a week. Mine are all the ferns I’ve dug up out of the yard.

My wife waters the indoor plants and I water the plants outdoors.

You need to get a routine. For me, every Thursday morning is water the plants (once a month with a little fertilizer).
