How did he/she get the the pole on the far side of the crossbar?

More of a splat!! landing.

I always wonder how pole vaulters get started. Do they start off with a shorter pole, or are the ones we see just ones who were smart enough to get the process right from the very beginning. Sure I wonder about the question all the time, but in reality I’m not touching it with a 10 foot pole. (Long way for a joke, but in my opinion, worth it. :^) )

Only the hardy (hard boiled) survive.

Hummmm … I’ve got a bad feeling about this one ;-)

Soft? Eight minutes. Hard? Ten minutes.

If the landing spot is very soft he may be okay. I fell from 7 foot sideways off a ladder this summer while picking cherries, landed in a bed of recently watered thick clover, and only had a half inch bruise on my shoulder. And I’m 75.
