I don’t know what some of the other draw programs use, but Adobe Illustrator was based on Adobe’s PostScript language. A professor in 1987, using Illustrator 1.0 or 2.0, showed us how you could enter math functions to draw. I can’t recall how he did that.
Vector drawing doesn’t require any mathematical understanding! The app does the maths for you. ‘Vectir’ means drawing with lines and shapes, as distinct from ‘painting’ pixels. Look up some stuff on the net, there’s plenty on display.

vector illustrations are very useful if the size of the art has to be changed, especially when enlarged.

I wish there was a home version of Illustrator like there is for Photoshop which has limited vector features.

I remember many of the classic video games in the 19810s used vector graphics. Games like Asteroids, Battlezone, and Tempest.
