I grew up in a “casual” house – mom did the housework until she went to work after going back to college to get 2 master’s degrees – but it was clean, laundry done and all of us fed by her cooking.
For decades I worked full time plus in accounting/for awhile also in handcrafted production to sell at craft shows, I also kept house for husband and myself and sat on the boards of two clubs as treasurer. No trouble getting everything done.
Then husband was burned out at work and I suggested he take leave from work to see if that helped or if he needed to stop working (in his mid 50s). The idea was I would keep working and we would expand our craft business. He never went back to work. We tried to build up our craft business, did not work well. My clients who were generally formally clients of my dad or my boss when I worked for someone else were dying due to aging.
When he quit his job there were two rules – we could not eat lunch at Wendys every day and I had to have time to myself. A year or so in gas prices had gone through the roof and he pointed out it made no sense for me to drive to the supermarket and him to drive separately to the Home Depot in the same shopping center. Little by little – until Covid I would go out alone twice a month. Once Covid hit we went out together and I had my clients mail their work to me. Together basically 24/365.
He is concerned about our being together also – especially since I don’t get to drive our vehicles as he suffers from motion sickness. He actually pushed me to go to back to my embroidery club so I would be driving again and out without him as he feels guilty that our agreement had to be broken for several years.
If not careful she could end up with him 24/365 also.
Does Laura no longer work outside the home? Adam gave up his work at the coffee shop. Wouldn’t it make more sense to say, “I’m busy working and we’re both busy writing?”
That must be some mess that they make, if he’s joking about taking out a second mortgage to cover cleaning costs… That’s a lazy joke on Harrell’s part…
Plus Harrell shows a lack of continuity in his timelines:
1. We know that Luara sold the rights to her book so they already have a healthy bank balance…that money was probably invested and they are living on either the dividends, or the interest from it…
2. Harrell never told us if Laura is still working part time at that bookstore to get away from Adam…
3. Adam being @Home is never shown doing any housework, or cooking, or laundry, so how is that house getting cleaned now(?) Is Laura going without sleep 24/7 all year?
4. Why is Laura is still with that lazy bum anyway?

I just hope she has enough sense NOT to hit on Adam. And she’ll need the patience of Job to tolerate his two oldest kids!!

She needs to be careful.

How many men worry when their wife says “I’ve been thinking.”?

The children are old enough to help around the house. No need for a housecleaner.

Adam, don’t get lost in thought because it is unfamiliar territory.

Um, second mortgages are not for recurring expenses.

Don’t worry Adam, it’s not like you’re paying for it.

Such a clever response to his wife! I need to use that one. I usually say, “I thought I smelled smoke!”

It’s because the housecleaner has to hire child care and cannot afford a house.

Interesting how Katy refers to him working, and she is busy writing, when both write for a living.
