Sunday!
Sure. In Portuguese, it’s “Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Saturday, and Sunday”. Blame the French Revolution for that.
Tomorrow will be muggy. Followed by tueggy and weggy.
Except for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, the days of the week are named after Norse gods. Well, the Vikings did invade England.
Sun, Moon, Tyr, Wodin, Thor, Frigg, Saturn.
SUNdayMOONdayTyrday (Norse god)WODENday (Norse god)THORSday (ibid)SATURNday
There’s been debate over the accuracy of these being the names, but, this is what I learned.
All days have actual words in them. Like “day”. Or SUNday MondAY tueSdAY WEdnEsDay tHursdAY fRIDay SaTurdAY.
Saturday is for Saturn, Sunday for the Sun, Monday is for the Moon, the rest of the week is for Norse Gods. Tuesday is for Tyr, Wednesday for Woden or Odin , Thursday is for Thor, and Friday for Frigg.
Wednes? Never saw it abbreviated like that it’s usually Wed. But I get what Greg is doing using the first letters and dropping the “day”
Thursday is named after Thor, Friday is names after the fried fish special at all the restaurants !
Tuesday comes from the Old English tīwesdæg, meaning “Tiu’s day.” Tiu was a Germanic god of the sky and war. His equivalent in Norse mythology is Tyr.
I guess we’re doing this: it’s Tiw’s (or Týr’s) Day. Followed by Odin’s Day, Thor’s Day, Freya’s Day, Saturn’s Day, and the Sun’s Day.
I have worked with people from New Zealand and Australia, who pronounced the first ‘d’ and made it three syllables, “Wed-nes-day”
Taco Tuesday! Yum
