For a time at one of my jobs I worked with a young woman who lived in a storage unit. I found this out by taking her there one day after she asked me for a ride “home”.
When I first started my last job, I was put up in motel while I apartment/house hunted. There was a storage unit nearby and every evening when I would get off work, there would be a couple dozen people in the unit with the door up cooking. Mattresses were on the floor of the unit. They were living there.
