    I saw where some person took their son to a veterinarian, because he identified as a cat – and they thought it was discrimination because the veterinarian wouldn’t treat him. Saddest part – I couldn’t tell if it was real, or a parody.

    But what happens if the pipes don’t identify as male or female? Or if they are non-gender specific? Or if they are bi-gender?

    I hate to burst your bubble Mike, but many pipes have BOTH male and female parts. Some have exotic drains on them and some have spigots. There is a whole LBGTQ… of “mating appendages” on pipes.

    In electronics, we had “plugs” and “sockets”, but also referred to them as male and female ends. So what’s the big deal?

    Yes, but occasionally male and female threads are reverse-threaded to prevent mixups. Make of that what you will.

    The male/female terms have also been used to describe computer cable connections in the IT industry (though less common now than in the past).
