As a child there was no such thing as a “second helping” in our home. There was barely enough for firsts. Mom made bread and we all loved fresh bread right out of the oven. If you wanted a piece you reached for the one on the bottom of the stack because that is the only one left by the time your hand got there. Ahh…the taste of warm bread and butter… not the oily margarine taste. I always buy fresh bread at a bakery now. Too busy to make it myself. A good winter’s night snack is toast and peanut butter with hot tea. I feel sorry for those who can’t eat peanut butter.
